Welcome to the Directorate of Quality Assurance & Performance Contracting Chuka University is committed to the provision of Quality Education. This is in line with the vision of the University to be a Premier University for the provision of quality education training and research for sustainable national and global development. Towards this end, Chuka University established the Directorate of Quality Assurance and Performance Contracting on the 17th of June 2010 to coordinate the implementation of Quality Assurance mechanisms in the University. The Directorate also oversees the implementation of Performance Contracting and is headed by a Director.

OBJECTIVES/CORE FUNCTIONS

  1. To institutionalize Quality Assurance and Performance Contracting at Chuka University.
  2. To sensitize University community on Quality Assurance and Performance Contacting.
  3. To coordinate and ensure that the targets set in the yearly performance contracts between the Government and the University are met.
  4. To develop monitoring and evaluation systems that will sustain and improve the quality of academic programmes, services, products, and procedures.
  5. To monitor the implementation of the Strategic Plan via yearly Performance Contracts.
  6. To monitor the implementation of the Chuka University ISO quality management system (QMS) in collaboration with the Management Representative (MR).
  7. To evaluate the quality of teaching and provide feedback to management, staff, and students.
  8. To advise academic departments on programmes due for review.
  9. To liaise with management to conduct tracer studies to determine the quality of Chuka University 

The Directorate has three main core tasks. That is Quality Assurance, Performance Contracting, and Quality Management System.

Quality Assurance

This unit deals with the implementation of the Quality Assurance Policy and compliance of CUE guidelines. Activities involved include:

  • Implementation and  institutionalizing of Quality Assurance Policy
  • To develop monitoring and evaluation systems that will sustain and improve the quality of academic programmes, services, products, and procedures.
  • Conduct internal audits.
  • To evaluate the quality of teaching regularly and provide feedback to management, staff, and students.
  • To monitor quality teaching through student class attendance and lecturer attendance in departments.
  • To advise academic departments on programmes due for review in compliance with CUE guidelines.
  • Analyzing external examiners reports for postgraduates students bi-annually to improve the quality of the thesis.
  • To liaise with management to conduct tracer studies to determine the quality of Chuka University graduates.
  • In general, to make recommendations that would help improve the ranking of the quality process, products, and services in the University.

Performance Contracting:

This unit deals with Coordination, Implementation, Monitoring, and Reporting of the University Performance Contract. Activities involved include.

  • Developing and preparing a draft Performance Contract together with University management for negotiation with the Ministry of Education using the guidelines released annually by the Performance Contract division Secretariat.
  • To sensitize University community Performance Contacting.
  • Overseeing the preparation of departmental work plans by HODS.
  • Coordinating and monitoring the implementation of the targets set in the yearly Performance Contract between the Government and Chuka University Council.
  • Coordinating evaluation of departments on the achievements of the targets set in the Performance Contract and preparation of quarterly reports to relevant various Governmental Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) by the stipulated deadline.
  • To monitor the implementation of the Strategic Plan via yearly performance contracts.
  • Prepare and Compile Annual PC reports.
  • Coordinating the University management for Annual Performance Contracting Evaluation Exercise.

Quality Management System ISO 9001:2015

  • To monitor the implementation of the Chuka University ISO Quality Management System (QMS) in collaboration with the Management Representative (MR).
  • To prepare the University for External Surveillance and Certification Audits.
  • Offer secretariat services to Quality Management System activities.
  • Maintenance and evaluation of QMS.
