NEMA, Kenya Forest Service, and Chuka University Forge Environmental Conservation Alliance

Today, Prof. Charles Ngome, a board member from the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) alongside a three-member delegation, paid a courtesy visit to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Henry Mutembei. The primary objective of the visit was to discuss the University’s role in national environmental conservation efforts. During the meeting, Professor Ngome commended Chuka University for its proactive stance in planting over one million trees across various public sites including schools, hospitals, forests, riparian lands, and wetlands.

In a significant development, NEMA, in collaboration with the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and Chuka University, announced plans to form a collaborative partnership aimed at conserving the Gataungwa wetland and one river. This forthcoming memorandum of understanding aligns with the government’s initiative to augment tree cover and safeguard the environment. Vice-Chancellor Mutembei reaffirmed the University’s dedication to meeting its performance contract targets through active participation in sustainable environmental conservation initiatives, such as tree planting.
