The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Mutembei, today concluded his IAEA tour by engaging in high-level discussions with Madam ELREFAEL Amal, the Project Management Officer and Victor Tsuma, the Technical Officer. These talks marked a significant milestone in advancing the proposed Integrated Food Security Project, which envisions the establishment of a National Training Centre of Excellence at Chuka University. This state-of-the-art centre will feature integrated laboratories focused on water and soil management, a livestock and crop genomic hub, cutting-edge breeding and reproductive technologies, livestock nutrition, and food safety. Designed as a national platform, it aims to deliver high-impact solutions for food security through shared infrastructure and human capital, ensuring long-term sustainability.
As the designated national counterpart, the Vice-Chancellor expressed his deep gratitude to the team that developed the concept, the National Liaison Office in Nairobi, and the IAEA team in Vienna for their unwavering support. With a budget allocation of KES 140 million, this transformative initiative is set to make a substantial contribution to Kenya’s food security agenda. The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed his full commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of the project.
