Chuka University at the Forefront of Engineering Education in Africa

Chuka University proudly participated in the Capacity Building for Engineering Education (CB4EE) Workshop Series, a transformative initiative aimed at enhancing the quality and relevance of engineering education across Africa. The workshop, themed “Leading Change in Engineering Education: From Accreditation to Transformative Teaching,” is conducted under the auspices of the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Project and is organized by a consortium of African universities in collaboration with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).
The event convenes engineering educators from leading universities across the continent to engage in the exploration of innovative teaching methodologies, progressive curriculum development strategies, and alignment with international accreditation standards. Representing Chuka University at the workshop were Dr. Josephat Machoka Bundi and Dr. Edwin Nyangwara Omosa from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. They are collaborating with facilitators from premier South African universities on key thematic areas including the integration of Washington Accord standards into engineering curricula, strengthening leadership and change management within engineering faculties, adoption of Problem/Project-Based Learning (PBL) methodologies, curriculum transformation in line with global accreditation frameworks, and the advancement of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) in engineering education.
The workshop was hosted at two venues: Murang’a University of Technology from 6th to 7th October 2025, and Strathmore University from 8th to 9th October 2025. It brought together deans, department heads, and faculty members from engineering schools across Kenya, fostering collaboration and the exchange of best practices among institutions.
Through its active participation, Chuka University reaffirms its commitment to strengthening engineering education through innovation, regional collaboration, and continuous professional development. The University remains dedicated to elevating academic standards and aligning its engineering programs with global best practices, thereby ensuring that its graduates are well-prepared to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
