When Dialogue Beats the Gavel

Instead of courtroom battles and family feuds, dialogue took center stage during the Mediation Open Day held at the University. The event showcased how conversations, not confrontations, can heal families and strengthen communities. Organized in partnership with the Karl Mediation and Arbitration Center (KMAC) and local law courts, the forum brought together students, judiciary officers, alumni, and community members under the theme “Resolving Family Conflicts Through Dialogue, Not Court Battles.”

Through panel discussions, a live mediation skit, and interactive sessions, participants explored how mediation can resolve land, succession, and family disputes while preserving relationships. Youth leaders and Karl Mediation alumni also highlighted the role of young people in promoting a culture of peace. The day ended on a lively note with friendly football matches and recognition moments celebrating teamwork and harmony, proof that peace, indeed, starts with dialogue. The initiative affirmed Chuka University’s commitment to promoting community-centered approaches to justice, peacebuilding, and social cohesion.
