Students from the Animal Sciences Department were mentored by professionals from Africa Network for Animal Welfare (ANAW) in a session focused on advancing animal health and welfare practices. The mentorship, brought together industry experts and students to discuss key animal welfare principles, including the internationally recognized Animal Welfare Freedoms. The professionals also sensitized learners on proper poultry housing systems, with particular emphasis on improving the welfare of caged chicken. The event was organized as part of ongoing efforts to bridge academic learning with industry practice. The session aimed to equip students with practical knowledge and expose them to emerging standards shaping the animal welfare sector. Students described the mentorship as timely and impactful, citing the interactive discussions and real-world insights as key takeaways from the engagement.
