UASU Chuka Chapter Elects New Leadership in Competitive Poll

The Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) Chuka University Chapter has ushered in a new leadership team following a closely contested and transparently conducted election. Dr. Anthony Odek was elected Branch Chairperson, while Dr. Alice Lunani assumes the role of Chapter Secretary. Other elected officials include Dr. Joseph Maina (Vice-Chairperson), CPA S. M. Irungu (Treasurer), Robinson Kenyatta (Organizing Secretary), and Dr. Chrispine Isaboke (Deputy Secretary). Members also elected Elizabeth Mutunga, Elizabeth Magero, and Dr. Charity Nyaboke as delegates, alongside trustees Lilian Makena, Faith Nyaga, and Felister Mbaka. A tie for the position of Assistant Treasurer (Linet Mutua & Dr. Peris Nderitu) will be resolved via repeat vote.
In his acceptance remarks, Dr. Odek lauded the electoral board and members for upholding integrity in the process, noting that the peaceful and verifiable elections reflect the maturity of the union. He called for unity and collective action, urging members to support the new leadership in addressing emerging challenges and advancing the welfare of academic staff.
Dr. Alice Lunani, the incoming Chapter Secretary, expressed appreciation to the outgoing officials and the Chuka Labour Office for overseeing a credible electoral process. She emphasized that a strong union is anchored on active membership, unity, and shared responsibility, and pledged to promote transparency and effective engagement.
Electoral Board Chair Prof. Sammy Musundi congratulated the newly elected officials and confirmed that arrangements are underway to conduct a repeat election for the Assistant Treasurer position. The newly elected team is expected to steer the chapter towards strengthened representation, enhanced member engagement, and improved welfare advocacy.
