Senate Unveils Bold Strategy for Growth and Global Reach

Chuka University has taken a significant step towards enhancing its sustainability, global presence, and graduate employability following key resolutions made during the 120th Senate Sitting. The Senate deliberated on strategic measures to strengthen income generation, expand international collaborations, and enhance industry linkages to better prepare students for the dynamic world of work.
As part of the strategic realignment, the former Directorate of Career Services has been renamed the Directorate of Career Services, Internationalization and Industry Linkages. The expanded Directorate will spearhead efforts to strengthen students’ career development, facilitate international collaborations, promote staff and student exchange programmes, and foster partnerships with industry players to enhance practical learning and employment opportunities.

In a parallel move aimed at enhancing the University’s financial sustainability, the Senate approved the rebranding of the Directorate of Resource Mobilisation to the Directorate of Income Generation and Resource Mobilisation. The Directorate is expected to focus on strategic expansion through identifying and implementing innovative income-generating ventures, strengthening partnerships with development agencies and the private sector, mobilizing research grants, and exploring new investment opportunities that can supplement the University’s traditional sources of funding.
Speaking during the deliberations, members of the Senate emphasized the need to leverage the University’s vast expertise, research capacity, infrastructure, and strategic partnerships to unlock new opportunities for growth and innovation. The discussions highlighted the importance of commercialising research outputs, enhancing consultancy services, strengthening alumni engagement, expanding short professional courses, and developing collaborations with local and international institutions.
The Senate further noted that strengthening industry linkages will ensure that academic programmes remain responsive to market demands while equipping students with practical skills, entrepreneurial competencies, and workplace experience necessary for success in the modern economy.
The resolutions made during the 120th Senate Sitting mark a significant milestone in Chuka University’s transformation agenda and reaffirm the University’s commitment to academic excellence, financial sustainability, innovation, and global competitiveness. The strategic restructuring reflects the University’s proactive response to the changing dynamics in higher education, where institutions are increasingly required to develop sustainable financing models while producing graduates who are globally competitive and industry-ready.
