A Cambridge Scholar’s Visit That Sparked Big Questions

The School of Law had the pleasure of hosting Ms. Wavinya Makai, a development scholar from the University of Cambridge and the author of Capital Violence. She engaged students in a powerful conversation on economic liberation and its influence on socio-economic rights, grounding her insights in real-life experiences that deeply resonated with the audience.
Her visit formed part of ongoing efforts to revitalise the Human Rights Club, where she encouraged students to read widely, think critically, and participate actively in current debates on social justice. Ms. Makai also invited students to explore her book, Capital Violence, which examines inequality and structural harm in a compelling and accessible way.
