Academic Staff Sensitized on Curriculum-Based Education and Pedagogy

As part of ongoing efforts to enhance academic delivery, Chuka University hosted a sensitization workshop on Curriculum-Based Education for its teaching staff. The initiative was organized by the Faculty of Education and Resources Development to strengthen the university’s ability to provide quality, competency-focused education in line with national reforms.

The workshop brought together academic staff from all faculties, including department heads, curriculum coordinators, and lecturers. Its purpose was to deepen the faculty’s understanding of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and Outcome-Based Education (OBE), both of which emphasize the development of practical skills, critical thinking, and learner-centered teaching approaches. The training also served as a sensitization on the Curriculum-Based Education (CBE) review guidelines and pedagogy, equipping academic staff with the necessary tools to align their teaching methods and course structures with evolving national education standards.

While addressing participants, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Henry Mutembei highlighted the need for higher education institutions to embrace educational transformation that aligns with national goals and the demands of the modern workforce. He noted that universities must focus on producing graduates who are not only knowledgeable but also equipped with problem-solving abilities, an ethical foundation, and the capacity for innovation.

The training demonstrated the University’s strong commitment to academic excellence and graduate employability. By empowering faculty with relevant tools and knowledge, the institution is laying a solid foundation for education that prepares students not only to succeed in the job market but also to become change-makers in society.
