Chuka University hosted a high-impact training session designed to equip youth, women, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) with essential knowledge and skills to access government procurement opportunities under the Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) program.
The one-day training focused on demystifying the public procurement process and increasing participation among marginalized groups in line with the AGPO policy, which reserves 30 percent of government tenders for enterprises owned by youth, women, and PWDs.
Participants were guided through key aspects of the procurement process, including business registration, AGPO eligibility requirements, the use of the e-procurement portal, and the preparation of compliant tender documents. The training also addressed common challenges faced by AGPO beneficiaries, such as access to capital, delayed payments, and bureaucratic red tape. Facilitators provided solutions, including links to financial institutions, mentorship opportunities, and tips for remaining compliant with procurement regulations.
The training was part of a broader effort to promote economic empowerment and inclusivity in public procurement, in line with Kenya’s Vision 2030 development goals.
