Bridging Blueprints and Boardrooms: Engineers Meet Industry

Curiosity, creativity, and career ambition came alive as the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering hosted a workshop on Engineering in Practice: Regulation, Professionalism, and Innovation. The event aimed to equip students and young professionals with practical knowledge on professional development, industry expectations, and entrepreneurship. The training was officially opened by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Mutembei, who set an inspiring tone for the day.

Distinguished speakers included Eng. Grace Onyango, Head of Capacity Building and Accreditation at EBK; Eng. Joel Sutter, Regional Manager at EPRA; Eng. Godfrey Njoka from KETRACO; as well as entrepreneurs Dr. Phil (iCure Services), Joseph (Modern Gadgets), and Eric (Zayre Electronics).

The session highlighted key areas such as essential graduate attributes, the importance of lifelong learning, and emerging opportunities in entrepreneurship. It also addressed regulatory frameworks, professional standards, job market expectations, and existing skills gaps in the engineering field.

The workshop concluded with a student project exhibition, providing a platform for participants to showcase innovations and engage directly with industry professionals. Chuka University remains committed to bridging the gap between academic learning and industry practice, nurturing the next generation of engineers to excel professionally and contribute meaningfully to society.
