Change Your Game: ABSA Mentors Chuka Students

Chuka University successfully hosted the ABSA Foundation Mentorship Event under the theme “Career Growth, Mentorship, and Leadership for the Future Professional.” The event, designed to inspire students to “Change Your Game,” brought together learners and industry mentors to share insights on career growth, leadership, and professional development.
The highlight of the event was a keynote address by the ABSA Team on “Career Growth and Opportunities in the Banking and Finance Sector,” which emphasized the vast career prospects available in the industry and the importance of equipping young people with the right skills for the future of work. Students also learned about ABSA’s Ready to Work Program, an initiative aimed at preparing youth for employment through practical training and mentorship.
In her opening remarks, Ms. Joyce Mghoi, Director of Career Services, underscored the crucial role of mentorship in shaping successful career pathways and guiding students toward informed professional choices.
Throughout the session, students engaged with industry professionals in discussions covering key topics such as career pathways and job market clarity, internship and attachment opportunities, leadership and mentorship, financial literacy and investment, personal branding and networking, entrepreneurship and innovation, balancing academics and personal life, as well as emerging work trends and technology integration.
The event featured panel discussions under the sub-theme “Mentorship, Leadership, and Professional Development,” where mentors shared experiences and insights on personal and professional growth. Breakout mentorship sessions allowed for small-group interactions, providing students with personalized guidance from ABSA mentors.
The event concluded with a plenary feedback and interactive Q&A session, giving participants an opportunity to reflect on their experiences, seek clarification, and gain deeper insight into career planning and growth.
