Chuka University and CIArb Seal the ADR Deal

Chuka University and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing the use and understanding of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms within the university and the wider community.

The agreement outlines a broad range of initiatives to foster awareness and practical skills in ADR, including sensitization campaigns, support for essay writing, research, and moot courts on ADR. The MoU also includes training for lecturers and departmental heads, certification programs for students and faculty, and opportunities for the university to be featured in ADR-related publications.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Prof. Gilbert Nduru, DVC ARSA, emphasized the importance of equipping young professionals with non-litigation dispute resolution methods such as mediation, conciliation, adjudication, and arbitration.

Additionally, the MoU proposes the formation of a Young Arbitrators Association in Central Kenya, the incubation of students under ADR mentorship, and the extension of ADR awareness and training to the local community.

The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a globally recognized professional body, supports practitioners not only in law but also in fields such as architecture, engineering, quantity surveying, and insurance, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of ADR.

This collaboration marks a significant step in positioning Chuka University as a leader in dispute resolution education and community engagement.
