The Eastern Africa Grain Council (EAGC), in partnership with Chuka University through the Faculty of Environmental Studies and Resource Development, successfully hosted an Agribusiness Expo at the University’s Pavilion Grounds, bringing together key stakeholders across the agricultural value chain to showcase innovations in sustainable agriculture.

The Expo attracted farmers, agribusiness stakeholders, innovators, and industry leaders, offering a platform to explore climate-smart technologies, mechanization, agritech solutions, food loss reduction strategies, and effective post-harvest management. Additional highlights included farm input, research innovations, financial services, business-to-business linkages, and live crop and livestock demonstrations.
In his remarks, Prof. Mutembei highlighted the University’s strategic investments in agriculture and agribusiness through academic programmes, research initiatives, and demonstration farms that promote climate-smart agriculture, value addition, and sustainable production systems. He emphasized the importance of partnership with EAGC in strengthening industry linkages and equipping students with practical skills through apprenticeship programmes that bridge the gap between theory and practice.
He further noted that Tharaka Nithi County provides a relevant context for addressing agricultural challenges such as climate variability and market access, positioning the University to train professionals capable of driving transformation in the sector. He also acknowledged the support of the County Government of Tharaka Nithi and other stakeholders in the successful organization of the Expo.
