Chuka University Sets the Stage for New Staff Success

The Human Resource Department successfully conducted a New Staff Induction Training on May 21, 2025, aimed at orienting newly recruited employees to Chuka University’s systems, values, and expectations. The one-day seminar brought together new staff from various departments and was officially opened by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Mutembei.

In his keynote address, Prof. Mutembei emphasized the principles of effective administration and the best practices in human resource management. He underscored the need for all staff members to understand their job descriptions thoroughly and to set realistic and measurable performance targets aligned with the university’s mission.

The induction featured a series of enlightening presentations. Dr. Peter Mabubi, Registrar Administration and Planning, offered an in-depth introduction to the university’s governance and administrative structure, while Dr. Samuel Chege, Registrar Academic Affairs, gave a comprehensive overview of the university’s core mandate in teaching, research, and community service.

Ms. Florence Muthee, Director of Performance Contracting, presented on the university’s Strategic Plan, performance contracting framework, and the critical alignment between institutional goals and individual roles. Prof. Colomba Muriungi, Director of Quality Assurance, elaborated on the university’s quality assurance mechanisms and how they are implemented across departments to maintain academic and service excellence.

Human Resource Manager, Dr. Henry Muchiri, engaged the participants with a session on staff welfare, focusing on the university’s code of conduct, professional ethics, and the expected workplace culture. On matters finance, CPA Dr. John Thuranira, the Finance Officer, outlined the university’s financial procedures, equipping staff with essential knowledge on budgeting process, Imprest requisition and Surrender and Procurement of Goods and Services.

Additionally, Ms. Stella Kaburia, Senior Legal Officer, delivered a presentation on staff rights, privileges, obligations, and the national values and principles that guide public service.

The training concluded with an interactive feedback session where participants shared insights and sought clarification on various matters. The induction was not only informative but also served as a platform for new staff to integrate into the Chuka University community with a shared understanding of the institution’s values and performance expectations.
