Fifteen students from Chuka University have achieved the prestigious honor of joining the 2024 class of the UN Millennium Fellowship. After a rigorous selection process, these students emerged from a record-breaking pool of 52,581 applicants spanning more than 6,000 universities worldwide. Chuka University is among 280 campuses globally chosen to host the renowned program, which focuses on empowering students to make meaningful contributions toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) principles.
The newly selected Millennium Fellows paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Mutembei, who expressed his immense pride in the students and the university’s selection as a host campus. He congratulated the fellows and reaffirmed the university’s dedication to supporting their initiatives aimed at advancing the SDGs.
Cynthia Awuor and Muthoni Ndegwa, two standout fellows, have been appointed as Campus Directors. Their leadership will be instrumental in guiding the cohort through the semester-long fellowship program, which is designed to equip students with the skills necessary to pursue impactful careers aligned with global priorities such as Climate Action, No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-being, and Quality Education.
Throughout the fellowship, the students will participate in a comprehensive curriculum, working on individual and group projects that address one or more of the 17 SDGs. This program offers them a unique opportunity to develop skills vital for careers in global development and social impact, positioning Chuka University as a hub for youth-led initiatives toward a sustainable future.
