Defining Scientific Boundaries Beyond Employment

The Faculty of Science and Technology, in collaboration with the Biochemistry and Biomedical Science Students Organization, hosted a career talk on March 20, 2025, under the theme Defining Scientific Boundaries; Beyond Employment. The event was organized by the students, with the patronage of Prof. Silas Kiruki, the Section Head of Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences in the Physical Sciences Department. It was coordinated by Madam Angeline Wambua and received strong support from the Dean, Prof. Kamweru.

The insightful session featured distinguished guest speakers who provided valuable guidance on diverse career opportunities and emerging trends in the fields of biochemistry and biomedical sciences. Dr. Winnie Okeyo delivered an engaging presentation on the application of biochemistry in food science, animal health, and biotechnology. She also highlighted the role of insects as a potential food source and explored various career pathways available in these dynamic fields.

Ms. Akiso Matrona shared her inspiring academic journey and research work on immune response mechanisms in HIV infections. She emphasized the importance of research in addressing global health challenges and encouraged students to pursue innovative solutions within biochemistry and biomedical sciences. Dr. Faith Njeru discussed the revolutionary use of nanobodies as diagnostic tools and explored the integration of antibody engineering, biotechnology, and cell biology. Her talk underscored the potential of advanced biomedical technologies in improving healthcare and crop diagnostics and treatments.

The event served as a platform for students to gain insights into scientific advancements and professional development beyond traditional employment avenues. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with experts, seek mentorship, and expand their understanding of the ever-evolving landscape of biochemistry and biomedical sciences.
