Driving Change in Livestock Breeding

On 21st July 2025, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Mutembei, participated in the opening of the Regional Meeting of Senior Managers on the Action Plan for Sustainable Livestock Breeding in Africa, held at Safari Park Hotel. The meeting convened senior officials from 15 African countries, including Prof. Shaukat Abdulrazak, Principal Secretary for Science, Research, and Innovation, Dr. Benadatte Misoi, Managing Director of the Kenya Animal Genetic Resources Centre (KAGRC), as well as Mr. Abdou Ndiath and Prof. Victor Tsuma from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The primary objective of the meeting was to enhance collaboration towards the advancement of sustainable livestock breeding across the continent.
As this part of collaboration, participants of the 2nd Global Summer School on Nuclear Assisted Livestock Technologies had a field visit at the Kenya Animal Genetic Resources Centre (KAGRC). During the visit, they covered key learning areas such as the production and distribution of quality livestock genetics, provision of artificial insemination (AI) services, and the application of nuclear technologies to improve livestock productivity and resilience.
