Delegates from the Southern Universality Agricultural Research and Extension Centre (SUAREC) paid a courtesy call to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Mutembei on January 25 and 26, 2024. The delegation led by scientists, Dr. James Obuya and Dr. Deviaiah Kambiranda are on a monitoring and evaluation mission of the smallholder farming systems project a collaboration between Chuka University and SUAREC. This is a donor-funded project by the 1890 Universities Centre of Excellence in Global Food Security and Defense.
The project has been key in providing research and outreach skills to targeted small-scale farmers and stakeholders with the primary goal of enhancing agricultural productivity in Tharaka Nithi County. The Faculty of Agriculture played a key role in empowering four self-help groups of small-scale farmers within Tharaka Nithi County to implement a fruit tree agroforestry project.
In his remarks, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mutembei said that he is delighted to witness this impactful collaboration as it reflects on the university’s commitment to fostering agricultural development. He commended the efforts of all involved in the project, and he anticipates positive outcomes as they work together to enhance the skills and productivity of local farming communities.
