Fostering Budgeting Capacity

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences conducted a training session to enhance academic budgeting skills among its staff. The workshop, graced by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Mutembei, focused on equipping dons with the knowledge and tools needed to contribute effectively to financial planning in their respective sections and departments. The Vice-Chancellor underscored the importance of budgeting for transport, mileage, and field attachment assessments in line with Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) guidelines.
Participants were taken through key topics including common budgeting mistakes and how to avoid them, fundamentals of budgeting for academic activities, and budget review processes.
The training aimed to promote transparency, accountability, and efficient resource allocation across the faculty. It is expected to significantly improve financial management within academic programs and foster evidence-based decision-making.
