Gearing Up for the Flourishing Community Model Masterclass

A delegation from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), Galveston, and Sodzo International, led by Prof. Michael Goodman, attended a dinner meeting with representatives from Chuka University headed by Prof. Christopher Kiboro, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, on February 27, 2025. The primary objective of the meeting was to reinforce the ongoing collaboration between the three institutions in preparation for the upcoming Flourishing Community Model Masterclass hosted by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, scheduled for March 11, 2025.

The University of Texas and Chuka University have an established Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that fosters academic and research partnerships. This MOU facilitates joint research initiatives, research conferences, student and faculty exchange programs, and community outreach activities.

During the dinner meeting, discussions centered on strengthening existing collaborations, exploring new opportunities for joint projects, and ensuring the success of the upcoming masterclass. The Flourishing Community Model Masterclass is set to bring together experts, scholars, and practitioners to deliberate on sustainable community development and innovative approaches to social transformation.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Kiboro highlighted the importance of partnerships that enhance knowledge sharing and capacity building. He emphasized that such collaborations align with the university’s mission of academic excellence and impactful community service. Prof. Goodman echoed these sentiments, expressing enthusiasm about the deepening relationship between UTMB, Chuka University, and Sodzo International.

As preparations for the masterclass continue, all partners reaffirmed their commitment to working together in promoting research-driven solutions for community development. The event is expected to attract diverse participants, including faculty, students, and community stakeholders interested in community based research.
