Giving Back, Uplifting Lives

The Rotaract Club of Chuka University, in partnership with the Waza Dada Foundation, held a mega charity event at Sacred Heart Ntumbara Secondary School in Igambang’ombe Sub-County, Chuka, Tharaka Nithi County on February 14th, 2025. The event aimed to support the club’s community development initiatives under the environmental protection and education support pillars.
The event was attended by students, parents and the local community, with notable attendees such as Rotarian Gitonga Mutani, the Club Patron, who served as the chief guest. He urged the community to support education and ensure that no school-going child was left to loiter in the villages. He also donated copies of his book “IF I HAD A SON” to the school. Joy Samuels, Director of Waza Dada Foundation, led a session on menstrual health awareness and provided dignity kits to students. Male attendees were encouraged to take a stand against transactional sex and support young girls, fostering a better community.
The Rotaract club president, Victor Ombisi, emphasized the importance of mutual support, especially to the less fortunate, quoting Pope John Paul II: “Nobody is so poor that he has nothing to give, and nobody is so rich that he has nothing to receive.” As part of the event, the club also donated building materials for the construction of a new school kitchen, addressing the lack of proper infrastructure for hygienic food preparation, and committed to following up on the construction’s progress.
In addition, the club and its partners donated sports equipment to support the school’s physical education program. This event played a crucial role in the Rotaract Club’s ongoing efforts to inspire students, improve their educational experiences, and contribute to the broader development of the local community.
