Green Hydrogen Training Sparks New Momentum in Sustainable Energy Innovation

Chuka University has taken a significant step toward advancing sustainable energy innovation through international knowledge exchange. Prof. Paul Kamweru, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, recently returned from a three-week Training of Trainers (ToT) program in Germany focused on Green Hydrogen and the Power-to-X (PtX) value chain. The program was organized and funded by GIZ and the PtX Hub.
The program equipped participants with cutting-edge insights into green hydrogen, a transformative energy carrier touted for its potential to decarbonize agriculture, transport, and industry. “This training reaffirmed that green hydrogen is a game-changing energy carrier with vast potential,” Prof. Kamweru said.
During the program, Prof. Kamweru engaged in intensive workshops and toured world-leading hydrogen-focused companies including Salzgitter AG (Salcos) and Thyssenkrupp Steel producers transitioning to hydrogen-based iron ore reduction, Siemens’ electrolyser plant, Yara, a fertilizer manufacturer exploring green ammonia production, and explored renewable energy research centers at the Technishe Hochschule Köln ( Cologne University of Applied Sciences) and Berliner Hochschule für Technik (Berlin University of Applied Sciences), gaining first-hand exposure to clean industrial applications.

He engaged with cutting-edge research in solar, wind, geothermal, and wave energy, opening new opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.
