Today, Chuka University has officially kicked off a three-day hackathon event. The event, presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Mutembei, brings together students specializing in computer science and applied computer science for an intensive design thinking and coding competition. Under the mentorship of seasoned industry developers, these students are tasked with devising solutions to data reporting challenges within the Electronic Community Health Information System (ECHIS), a platform integral to the delivery of primary healthcare services by Community Health Practitioners (CHPs). This initiative aligns closely with national priorities on Universal Health Coverage, aiming to enhance data management and streamline healthcare provision. Moreover, the hackathon serves as a platform to nurture young software developers, equipping them with the skills and experience necessary for success in the job market. Organized by the HealthIT project, a collaborative effort involving Chuka University, the University of Nairobi, and the Ministry of Health, with funding from USAID, this event represents a pivotal moment in leveraging technology for the betterment of healthcare delivery in Kenya.
