ILRI Fuels Chuka’s Digital Research Leap

Chuka University has received a generous donation of 15 high-performance laptops valued at Kshs. 1.5 million from the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), in a move set to enhance the University’s digital capacity, academic delivery, and research productivity. Receiving the laptop consignment on behalf of the University, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Henry Mutembei extended sincere appreciation to ILRI Director General, Prof. Appolinaire Djikeng, for the donation. “This thoughtful contribution strengthens our ICT infrastructure and aligns with our strategic blueprint to foster quality, technology-driven teaching and research. It is a commendable step in advancing digital literacy and innovation among our faculty and students,” said Prof. Mutembei. Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration, Finance, Planning and Development), Prof. Jonah Kindiki, lauded the partnership with ILRI, noting that such strategic collaborations are vital for bridging the digital divide and supporting world-class training and innovation. Prof. Andrew Muguna, Director of Resource Mobilization, acknowledged ILRI’s continued support for Chuka University’s academic mission, stating that the donation is a direct outcome of targeted resource mobilization efforts and mutual commitment to capacity-building for research intuitions. The laptop donation was coordinated and implemented by Mr. Charles Kinyua, Head of ICT, under the direction of the Vice-Chancellor. As part of this broader partnership, ILRI experts will lead specialized training sessions during the upcoming Second Summer School, scheduled to run for two weeks beginning 14th July 2025. The training will focus on enhancing livestock productivity using nuclear-based assisted reproductive technologies, an innovative and sustainable approach to improving animal breeding and genetic resource management.
