The two institutions formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishing a framework for collaboration in human rights research, institutional capacity building and outreach, with a focus on integrating human rights values into academic programmes and student life.
The engagement also featured a public lecture on transitional justice delivered by KNCHR Vice Chairperson Dr. Raymond Nyeris, MBS, titled “The Role of National Human Rights Institutions in Reparations.” The lecture provided students with insights into legal mechanisms, frameworks and practical challenges involved in securing redress and reparations for human rights violations.
Under the partnership, students will also have opportunities to undertake industrial attachments and internships at KNCHR, giving them practical exposure to the promotion and protection of human rights.
The MoU further provides a platform for joint research and civic engagement initiatives, strengthening the University’s role in fostering informed dialogue on human rights, justice and civic responsibility.
The collaboration marks another step in strengthening partnerships between academia and national institutions while equipping students with knowledge and practical experience to contribute to the promotion and protection of human rights in society.
