Legal Partnership Momentum Builds Following High-Level Engagement

Chuka University hosted officials from the National Council for Law Reporting (NCLR) in a high-level engagement aimed at strengthening collaboration in legal research, policy development, and access to legal information. The meeting brought together the University management led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Henry Mutembei and an NCLR delegation headed by CEO Ms. Janet Munyoki.
The engagement focused on fostering partnerships that enhance legal scholarship, student learning, and stakeholder engagement. Discussions highlighted the importance of improving accessibility to legal resources as a student-centered approach to advancing research and promoting wider dissemination of legal information.
Key conversations addressed emerging gaps in the law, including regulatory concerns surrounding surrogacy and the need to safeguard indigenous and local community practices through policy development aligned with the Constitution of Kenya 2010. Climate justice and environmental governance also featured prominently, with both institutions acknowledging the growing need for academic and professional collaboration in addressing contemporary environmental issues.
The NCLR commended the professionalism and performance of Chuka University School of Law students, expressing openness to expanding student attachment opportunities. The meeting further explored the possibility of jointly organizing an annual legal resource conference focused on environmental governance and climate justice, alongside strengthening government-to-government partnerships.
One of the major outcomes of the engagement was the proposal to formalize the partnership through a Memorandum of Cooperation to support ongoing training, research, and outreach initiatives in legal research and policy development.
The meeting marked a significant milestone in advancing legal knowledge within academic and community spaces, reinforcing Chuka University’s commitment to promoting legal awareness, student engagement, and collaborative partnerships that support national development.
