Prof. Gichumbi Partners in €500,000 Global Wastewater Research Project

Prof. Joel Gichumbi from the Department of Physical Sciences, is part of a multinational research team awarded €500,000 under the Belmont Forum Collaborative Research Program for a project titled “Pollutant Utilization and Resource Recovery for Environmental Sustainability in Municipal Wastewaters (PURE-MW).” The project brings together researchers from Kenya, Germany, Turkey, South Africa, and Uganda to develop innovative technologies for removing harmful pollutants from municipal wastewater and promoting environmental sustainability through resource recovery. Chuka University’s role, led by Prof. Gichumbi, focuses on assessing water quality, identifying pharmaceutical residues, and developing eco-friendly adsorbents from agricultural and bone waste for pollutant removal.
