Student fellows from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and Southern University (Louisiana), USA, were awarded certificates by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Mutembei, following the successful completion of a five-day experiential learning programme. The student fellows participated through the 1890 Global Food Security and Defense Fellows Program.
The learning experience aimed to provide the students with a comprehensive understanding of the African agricultural landscape. It focused on key areas such as farming practices, cultural dynamics, agricultural marketing, and home management.
As part of the programme, the fellows visited small-scale farmers and various agribusiness enterprises, including AITEC, Ideal Concept Farms, EM Technologies, the East African Fish Company, and Ol Pejeta Conservancy, among others.
The programme not only enriched the student fellows with practical knowledge and global perspectives on agriculture, but also strengthened the institution’s position as a hub for international collaboration, research, and experiential learning. It opened avenues for future academic partnerships, exchange programmes, and knowledge sharing, benefitting both institutions and contributing to the advancement of sustainable agriculture across borders.
