Top Storytellers Crowned in Inaugural Writing Fest

The inaugural Story Fest writing competition at Chuka University concluded today, December 11, 2024, with an award ceremony recognizing the best short story submissions. Ms. Doreen Ndanu clinched the top spot with her story Chasing the Maara, followed by Ms. Mukami Brendah’s The Last Catch as the first runner-up, and Jeremiah Muturi’s Bound by Duty; Broken by War as the second runner-up.

The month-long competition, from November 1 to December 1, 2024, saw student participation from various faculties and academic years. In total, 57 submissions were received, each undergoing a rigorous four-stage judging process based on 10 key storytelling components.

Jointly sponsored by Chuka University and Dr. Norton Simon of Yours2Read, the event aimed to foster creativity and storytelling among students. Despite being the first of its kind, the competition received significant interest, paving the way for potential future editions.

The Story Fest competition highlights Chuka University’s commitment to nurturing literary talent and providing a platform for student voices to shine.
