Chuka University School of Law students engaged in a thought-provoking Human Rights Lecture led by Hon. Justice Edward Muriithi, Presiding Judge of the Meru High Court, on November 26, 2024. Themed “Upholding Human Rights in a Changing Kenya,” the lecture was part of the Pre-Summit Human Rights Lecture Circuit, an initiative by the High Court to promote dialogue on critical human rights issues nationwide. Hon. Muriithi, accompanied by a delegation of judicial officers, including Hon. Tracy Wachira, highlighted the pivotal role of legal education in fostering human rights awareness and advocacy. He commended the students for their active participation, encouraging them to champion human rights in their legal careers.
This lecture, underscored the University’s growing prominence in legal education and its commitment to human rights advocacy. The event provided a platform for students, faculty, and legal practitioners to discuss pressing human rights issues and their implications for Kenya’s evolving legal framework. The lecture is part of a larger initiative by the High Court in partnership with select law schools across the country, aiming to deepen the understanding of human rights among students and stakeholders. It also served as a precursor to the High Court Summit scheduled for December 10–11, 2024, in Nairobi. The summit will bring together judges, legal scholars, and human rights advocates to build on the discussions from the lecture series, fostering actionable strategies for advancing human rights in Kenya.
