VC Leads Nationwide Push to Map Drought Damage and Urgent Needs

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Mutembei, today participated in a nationwide drought damage analysis and intervention needs assessment under the Food Systems Resilience Program (FSRP), where he leads overall coordination. The exercise seeks to inform rapid, evidence-based responses to the ongoing drought across affected counties.
The assessment emphasizes ground-level data collection, with field teams evaluating crop failure, water stress, and livestock losses, while documenting household impacts and priority needs to guide timely interventions. Prof. Mutembei’s participation draws on his expertise as a disaster management specialist, bringing together multidisciplinary teams and coordinated decision-making across counties.
The program currently rolled out in Marsabit County which has witnessed severe effects of prolonged dry spells on pastoral livelihoods, compounded by limited water access and urgent humanitarian needs.
