Chuka University Advances in EAC–KfW Scholarship Journey

A major milestone in Chuka University’s pursuit of regional academic excellence was marked as a delegation from the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) conducted a comprehensive due diligence visit to assess the University’s readiness for participation in the EAC–KfW Scholarship Programme Phase III.

The mission followed Chuka University’s successful shortlisting for the prestigious regional scholarship initiative, which supports postgraduate training, research, and academic collaboration across East Africa.

Led by Prof. Philippe Tunamsifu Shirambere and Ms. Dorine Rwehera, Coordinator of the EAC Scholarship Programme, the IUCEA team undertook an in-depth evaluation of the University’s capacity to implement the programme. The assessment focused on key areas including institutional capacity, academic programmes, research and innovation ecosystems, governance structures, infrastructure, and compliance with the programme’s implementation requirements.

The visit provided an opportunity for the delegation to engage with university leadership and examine the systems and resources that position Chuka University as a potential beneficiary of the scholarship programme. The exercise sought to establish whether the institution possesses the academic and administrative strengths necessary to deliver high-quality postgraduate education and research under the initiative.
