Transforming Conflicts from Within

In partnership with Kenyatta University, Chuka University hosted a transformative training workshop today titled “Transforming Conflicts from Within: A Psychodrama Intervention for Peacebuilding in Kenyan Universities.” The event brought together experts, facilitators, and student leaders from the two institutions to explore innovative ways of resolving conflicts and fostering harmony within academic settings.

Prof. Gilbert Nduru, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academics, Research, and Student Affairs (ARSA) at Chuka University, officially opened the workshop. In his opening remarks, Prof. Nduru emphasized the need for Kenyan universities to adopt creative and empathetic approaches to address interpersonal and institutional conflicts. He highlighted the significance of the workshop in equipping participants with practical tools for promoting dialogue and understanding.

Held at Chuka University, the training focused on using psychodrama—a therapeutic and dramatic technique—to transform conflicts into opportunities for growth. Attendees engaged in interactive sessions covering topics such as “Psychodrama in Conflict Resolution,” where they learned to apply role-playing and other psychodramatic methods to resolve disputes. The workshop also emphasized the importance of mental health awareness and conflict transformation in creating supportive academic environments
