Building Future Researchers Through a Postgraduate Training Seminar

The Department of Biological Sciences successfully conducted a postgraduate training seminar aimed at equipping students with essential academic and professional skills necessary for success in their studies and future careers. The seminar was organized under the leadership of the Chairperson of the Department, Dr. Olivia Njiri, and coordinated by Dr. James Mwangi, who oversees postgraduate students in the department.
The training featured key sessions covering critical areas of postgraduate education, including identifying research gaps and problems, scientific writing for proposals, theses, and journal articles, accessing research funding opportunities such as grants and scholarships, and developing life skills for balancing academic responsibilities with personal well-being. The seminar also addressed the postgraduate academic journey and strategies for academic success.
An open forum session provided students with an opportunity to share feedback, ask questions, and engage directly with faculty members on issues affecting their academic progress. The seminar reaffirmed the Department’s commitment to mentoring and supporting postgraduate students through academic empowerment, research excellence, and holistic personal development.
