Chuka University Marks World Mental Health Day With Week-Long Activities

Chuka University held a week-long series of activities from October 7 to 12, 2024, in commemoration of World Mental Health Day. The event, themed “It’s Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace”, aimed to foster a culture of openness, inclusivity, and acceptance surrounding mental health, particularly within university settings.

Under the sub-theme “Creating an Open, Inclusive, and Accepting Culture Around Mental Health in Universities,” the university organized various activities focused on mental health awareness and advocacy. These included workshops and sessions addressing stress, depression, anxiety, suicide, self-harm, and the dangers of drugs and substance abuse. 

Students, faculty, and staff also participated in a 7-kilometer awareness walk and sessions promoting fitness and self-care, emphasizing the importance of physical well-being in maintaining mental health. The event concluded with a strong message advocating for mental health as a priority in both academic institutions and workplaces.
