On May 16, 2024, Chuka University hosted a team from the Council of Legal Education (CLE) to conduct a quality assurance audit in the Faculty of Law. This routine inspection, occurring twice every five years, serves the CLE’s mission to enhance legal education and training, uphold rigorous standards in the legal profession, and ensure that legal service providers maintain excellence in their operations. Led by Moses Muchiri, Director of Quality Standards at the CLE, the team assessed the potential for expanding the Faculty’s capacity to accommodate the growing demand for the Bachelor of Laws program, in light of increasing student enrollment.
In addition to evaluating student capacity, the audit addresses several crucial issues, including the accreditation of professional programs and the establishment of a unified framework for legal accrediting bodies. Discussions also focused on regulatory advancements within the legal field. Universities are encouraged to provide feedback to facilitate the refinement of CLE regulations, ensuring their relevance and applicability across all Law Schools in Kenya. The Faculty of Law received accreditation on December 10, 2020, marking a significant milestone in its academic journey. The CLE audit team has expressed satisfaction with the Faculty’s overall performance signaling a positive trajectory in meeting established benchmarks. The inaugural cohort is slated to graduate in 2025, a testament to Chuka University’s commitment to delivering high-quality legal education.
