Intellectual Property Training Program Empowers Professionals and Academics

Chuka University hosted an Intellectual Property (IP) Training Program on April 3, 2024, drawing professionals, and academics eager to delve into the intricacies of IP management and protection. The day-long event featured esteemed facilitators and moderators who shed light on various aspects of intellectual property.

The program was formally opened by Prof. Henry Mutembei, Vice Chancellor and CEO of Chuka University, who emphasized the strategic positioning of universities through the utilization of intellectual property. He exhorted the employees to devise patentable innovations. Additionally, he urged dons to give students the freedom to innovate. The university will fully support and fund patenting.

The significance of IP was further emphasized by Prof. Gilbert Nduru, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic Research and Student Affairs (ARSA), who highlighted its pivotal role in academia and innovation. Prof. Eunice Githae, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic, Finance, and Planning Development (AFPD), then discussed the financial implications associated with intellectual property.

Throughout the day, participants actively participated in a series of sessions led by experts specializing in intellectual property. These sessions covered a wide array of topics, including patentable subject matter, trademark protection, and copyrights. Additionally, discussions centered around patent searching techniques, IP licensing agreements, and strategies for technology commercialization.
