Nutrition Meets Innovation

Day Four of the Regional Summer School on Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs) in Livestock Breeding underscored the critical role of nutrition in enhancing reproductive performance and livestock productivity, combining expert-led discussions with laboratory practicals and industry-based learning experiences.

The morning sessions focused on applied livestock nutrition, where participants explored the relationship between nutrition and reproductive efficiency. Discussions covered body condition scoring, energy balance, fertility management, and the effects of mineral and vitamin deficiencies on livestock reproduction, underscoring the importance of proper nutritional management in successful breeding programmes.

Participants later proceeded to the Animal Nutrition Laboratory for a hands-on feed analysis practical, where they conducted proximate analysis to evaluate the nutritional quality of livestock feeds. The practical session enhanced their understanding of feed composition and its influence on animal health and productivity.

In the afternoon, the participants visited a feed processing plant for a field-based learning experience. The visit provided practical insights into feed milling technologies, feed formulation, ration development, and the operational aspects of commercial feed production, allowing participants to learn from industry best practices and successful feed manufacturing models.
