Strengthening Academic Excellence Through Innovation and Reform

Academic Registrars from public and private universities across Kenya convened for a two-day conference organized by the Association of Academic Registrars of Universities in Kenya (AARUK), held on 30–31 July, to deliberate on emerging issues in higher education administration and the implementation of education reforms.
The conference was officially opened by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Mutembei, who emphasized the need for universities to align their curricula with national education reforms, embrace emerging technologies, and uphold academic integrity to enhance the quality, relevance, and competitiveness of higher education.
Participants engaged in discussions on curriculum alignment with the Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework, teaching and assessment approaches under CBE, and CBE pathways for teacher education. Deliberations also focused on academic integrity and student success in the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI), AI as an enabler of CBE through personalization and efficiency, quality assurance and policy frameworks for the future, the role of Academic Registrars in CBE and AI policy implementation, and financial literacy and retirement planning.
The conference concluded with the presentation of certificates to participants, reaffirming their commitment to advancing higher education reforms, strengthening academic governance, and embracing innovation in university administration.
