Varsity Hosts Collaborative Road Safety Sensitization Drive

Chuka University Students Association (CUSA), in collaboration with the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), the university administration, and community leadership, held a road safety sensitization exercise aimed at promoting safe practices among students and the local community along the busy Meru-Nairobi highway. Prof. Gilbert Nduru, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academic, Research, and Student Affairs (ARSA), emphasized the importance of adhering to road safety rules, stating that “everything has its own space” and urging students to use roads for movement, not idling. Eng. Newton Gitobi from KeNHA encouraged the use of marked zebra crossings and updated participants on the ongoing construction of a footbridge, assuring timely completion. Ms. Emily Ngaya, Chuka’s base commander, highlighted the importance of reporting reckless drivers and assured attendees that the traffic department would continue monitoring highway activity. Additionally, Ms. Ann Ndwiga from NTSA explained the authority’s role in promoting road safety and demonstrated how to report reckless road users through the NTSA portal. The event concluded successfully with a collective call for action under the slogan “Usalama Barabarani” (Safety on the Roads).
