A Lightweight Convolution Neural Network for Detecting Tuberculosis Using X-Ray Images

An introduction to TBNet
Three Chuka University researchers namely Dr. Edna Chebet Too and Dr. David Gitonga Mwathi from the Department of Computer Science together with Prof. Lucy Kawira Gitonga from Department of Nursing and Public Health developed a Research Project Proposal entitled “A Lightweight Convolution Neural Network for Detecting Tuberculosis Using X-Ray Images. The project aims to optimize the efficiency of deep learning networks for the task of detecting TB using X-rays. The project was awarded a minigrant of US $8,000 under Research and Innovation Systems for Africa (RISA) fund to cover the project activities as per the work plan. The University of Nairobi is the lead partner for the project and is responsible for administration of the grant.
