Chuka University hosted a two-day DAAD-funded workshop on “Governing Generative AI in Advanced Research: Ethics, Bias and Institutional Policy” from 9–10 July 2026, equipping participants with the knowledge and practical tools to promote the ethical and responsible adoption of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in higher education and research.
Organized by the Faculty of Science and Technology (FAST) in collaboration with KDSA Chuka, the workshop brought together DAAD alumni from various universities, alongside faculty members and students, to explore governance frameworks, ethical considerations, and institutional policies for the effective integration of GenAI.
Officially opening the workshop, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Mutembei, underscored the need for robust ethical frameworks and institutional policies to ensure that GenAI enhances research, teaching, and innovation while safeguarding academic integrity.
The programme featured sessions on global trends in GenAI, its application in teaching, research, academic administration, postgraduate supervision, research integrity, enterprise governance, policy harmonization, and responsible AI adoption. Participants also developed a Generative AI Use Classification Matrix and a draft institutional framework to support the ethical, transparent, and accountable integration of GenAI into university operations.
The workshop reaffirmed Chuka University’s commitment to advancing responsible artificial intelligence through strategic partnerships, capacity building, and research-driven innovation.
