Varsity Becomes Africa’s Hub for Livestock Reproductive Innovation

Chuka University marked the successful commencement of the two-week Regional Summer School on Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs) in Livestock Breeding. This training is bringing together scientists, researchers, academicians, and livestock experts from 29 countries across Africa for learning, collaboration, and knowledge exchange.

The programme was officially opened by the Chairman of the Council, Prof. David Serem, who welcomed the delegates to the University and underscored the importance of harnessing assisted reproductive technologies to transform livestock production, enhance food security, and promote sustainable agricultural development across the continent. He noted that the gathering reflects a shared commitment to strengthening Africa’s livestock sector through research, innovation, and regional partnerships.

Following the opening ceremony, participants engaged in breakout sessions where they examined African experiences in the application of assisted reproductive technologies. Through interactive discussions, delegates shared country-specific achievements, challenges, and innovative practices, fostering peer learning and identifying opportunities for collaboration in advancing livestock breeding across Africa.

The participants later reconvened for a plenary session to present their group discussions, with deliberations highlighting the diversity of experiences across the continent while identifying common priorities for accelerating the adoption of assisted reproductive technologies.
